Project Settings

Floor Grid

Every new project you start on KITS will have a default 30 ft. x 30 ft. floor grid. A floor grid will help with space planning your project based on a clients specific requirements. For accuracy, 1 square on your floor grid is equivalent to 1 sq ft. You can adjust your gird as per your clients requirements, just remember that the maximum setting for grid length and width is 100ft x 100ft*.

*If you are working on larger scale projects, we recommend splitting it into smaller projects (Ex. Working on a project with 10 areas, break it up into 2 projects with 5 areas each) for better efficiency when using the tool.

Although you can turn your floor grid off, its important to keep it on because the floor grid provides an area for you to place your furniture items in the scene builder. This relates to how you view your scene using the different camera views. Avoid placing items outside your floor grid as the camera views may not position properly around them.

The floor grid is also useful when your camera is set to Plan View. In plan view you can accurately space plan your layout according to your clients project requirements. This may include placement of items and overall square feet.

Cant see a floor grid? It is possible that youve zoomed out too far or moved the camera in the wrong direction. Dont worry! Theres a quick fix. In 3D view, simply click the Camera Reset button located on the bottom right corner of your screen. This will bring you back to the center of your floor grid.

Layout Aids

Whether you’re building a workstation, adding a few decorative items from the KOE catalog, or simply placing a chair under a desk there are two very important layout aids that will simplify the placement and alignment of your furniture pieces. Snap To and Collision Prevention are easy to use and will help you build your layouts efficiently.

The outline you see surrounding each item is called a bounding box. This indicates the items that you have clicked on and selected for editing. Bounding boxes can be red or green and each color corresponds with a different behavior.

Working with a Single Item

Working with Grouped Items

If the item is highlighted in blue it indicates the item currently selected that is active and can be edited. Multiple items can be selected using the Select+ button and will behave like grouped items as they remain selected. You can group items by clicking on the group button in the scene builder once all your items are selected or using the shortcut CTRL+G on your keyboard (Or Ungroup / CTRL+U to ungroup the items).

A red bounding box can indicates the items that are grouped together. Grouped items can be moved and rotated together. Or, it can indicate when the bounding boxes of the item you are moving has snapped to the other item.

A green bounding box indicates an item that is currently selected within a set of grouped items. This also indicates the item being active and can be edited.

Switching from 3D View to List View will also illustrate if an item has a blue, red or green bounding box. While in List View, select the item by clicking on it and it will indicate its bounding box. Double clicking an item will select the item, indicate the bounding box and also open the edit menu for further specifications.

What is Snap To?

When dragging items close to each other, having Snap To ON will force both items to automatically snap and align together. When this feature is OFF, items will not automatically attach with one another, giving you more control over the placement of each item.

What is Collision Prevention?

Collision Prevention will stop items from intercepting one another. When this feature is ON, the bounding boxes of each furniture item will not be able to overlap. Turning this feature OFF is ideal for when you are dragging items closer together, for example, placing a chair under a work surface.
