How to Create Standards Using SIF import
The quickest and easiest way of creating Standards in SnapTracker is to specify them using 2020 Technologies CAP Studio or Project Matrix. This takes full advantage of the vendor catalogs to create new Standards, enabling you to upload multiple, fully specified Standards at one time. It also provides a uniform manner in how the Standards display.
SnapTracker can read and import the information from:
- A generic SIF file
- A Teknion SIF file
- A Steelcase SSF file
This tutorial post outlines the process for creating Standards via Sif Import.
Step-by-step instructions
First step is to make sure your products have been fully specified and Standards are recorded in CAP2020 Worksheet or Project Matrix.
To record the Standard of each product, enable one of the Tag / Alias columns (e.g. Tag 1).
Another field can be enabled in the Worksheet to record the Standard Class. You can use Category or an Alias column. The column you use just needs to be a different column than the Standard.
Note: Do not record Standard in Tag2.
Use Attributes of CLR, WID, DPT, HGT to record the color, width, depth and height of the Standards, respectively. The information is automatically imported into SnapTracker in the User Defined 1 & 2 screens when the information is defined with these attributes.
Remember to export the worksheet as a SIF file (.sif) and save it to your local computer.
Upload a SIF File
From the main navigation bar on the left, select Setup, Standard Setup.
The Standard Setup screen displays. Select Sif Import.
The Sif Import screen displays.
First, using the Select a Customer drop-down selection box, select the Customer Number you are creating the new Standards for.
Click Choose File and browse your local computer to select the SIF file you would like to upload.
After you have selected the Sif file, complete the following selections:
- File Type: generic SIF/ Teknion SIF / Steelcase SSF – depending on the type of SIF file you are uploading.
- Import as: Asset / Like-item – you can change individual records on the screen.
- Create (Standards) From: select the column you used in the spec tool to record the Standards.
- Standard Class From: select the column you used in the spec tool to record the Standard Classes.
- Import as Tier: Standard/Buildup/Workstation
- If Standard exists: Update / Overwrite
- If Attributes exist: Import or not
Click Upload File.
Importing Standards
The lines of the SIF file with the Standards display on the screen, along with their Standard Class, Manufacturers, Catalog Ids, and Catalog No.
Select the checkbox for the Standards you would like to import.
Click Import at the bottom of the page.
A message displays indicating that Standards have been imported successfully.
Notes:
On Import as Tier: The Buildup Tier enables you to place certain Standards together in one common grouping such as a desk or a credenza. And the Workstation Tier allows the grouping of many Standards and Buildups to form a typical Workstation. However, importing product as a Buildup or Workstation tier does not create the grouping. You will need to use the Standard Options and Finishes screen to create the grouping.
The information on the individual lines can be edited in the Sif Import screen.
Click the Record No. (1, 2, etc) and the record details display. You can update the information for individual records before importing them.
To summarize, creating Standards via SIF import involves 2 steps:
- Create a specification file in 2020 CAP Studio or Project Matrix of the products.
- Import the Sif file to a specified Customer Number in SnapTracker.
Tips
After a SIF file is imported and Standards are created, if the SIF file did not include Standard Classes, the next step is to assign Standard Classes to the Standards.
