How to Receive an Asset vs. Like Items Manually
There are two ways to receive products into SnapTracker: manually (i.e. on the computer) or via PDA.
SnapTracker distinguishes movement of Asset items from movement of Like items: Asset items are tracked individually with serial numbers, and Like items are tracked by quantity.
This tutorial post outlines the process of manually receiving Asset items and Like items.
Step-by-step instruction
From the main navigation bar on the left, select Movement.
The Movements screen displays. Select Receive.
The Receive An Item screen displays. You can use this screen to receive both Asset and Like items.
Make sure the correct Customer Number displays in the top right corner by answering “whose inventory am I receiving”. You can use the Select a Customer drop-down box to choose the correct Customer.
Note that all fields marked with the red triangle are mandatory and must be filled out.
Receiving an Asset item
Assets are tracked at the single item level with a unique serial number assigned to each asset item.
To receive an Asset item, first select the Standard of the Asset using the Enter a Standard box. If you are typing in the Standard (instead of performing a Product Search), remember to click Get Record.
You will then assign a serial number in the Enter a Serial No. box. Space limit is 15 digits.
Then select the Building, Location where you will store the product.
Select the Condition the product is in.
Note:
By default, the Quantity is 1 when receiving Asset items because each serial number can be associated to only 1 item.
Click Receive at the bottom of the page. A pop-up screen displays, indicating the Asset item has been successfully received.
Receiving a Like item
Like items are tracked by quantity, as they have less dollar values in general.
First, select the Standard of the Like items using the Enter a Standard box.
If the Inventory Type of the selected Standard is Like, its Standard is automatically populated in the Enter a Serial No. field. We can think of it as the Serial number for a Like item is the same as its Standard.
Then, select the Building, Location where you will store the products.
Select the Condition and Quantity of the Like items.
Note:
If the like items are in different Conditions, you need to receive them in groups of the same Condition (e.g. 10 items in Good Condition, 8 in Fair Condition and 7 in Broken Condition). We suggest that you first separate the products according to their Conditions, count the quantity in each condition, then receive the like items in groups of the same Condition.
Click Receive at the bottom of the page. A pop-up screen displays, indicating the Like item has been successfully received.
You may repeat the step to receive the same Like items of a different Condition.
Did you know?
If you are receiving a large quantity of the same Asset item (i.e. all with identical Standard), use the Massive Asset Add function.
You are also be able to Transfer and Deliver the Asset and Like items manually.
