How to Rename User Defined Field Labels?

Did you know that you can customize up to 5 Standard user field and 10 Item user field labels at the customer level in SnapTracker?  You can use these fields to capture and present a variety of client-specific data. Renaming these user fields makes things clearer for the users who are capturing and viewing data online.

What are user fields for?

User fields are free-form text fields that allow you to capture additional information against a Standard or a specific Item. There are 5 Standard user field and 10 Item user field labels in SnapTracker to customize.

When do you use user fields? Let’s say your client wants to know what part of their inventory is executive furniture as opposed to general clerical furniture. For example, you could enter the phrase Executive in Standard User Field 1 for each Standard that qualifies to be executive furniture. By renaming the Standard User Field 1 to Furniture Type, it helps maintain consistency of data entry.

Another example could be that you need to capture  specific data against individual items received from projects such as a project number and/or a phase number. In this case, you would use the Item user fields in Add Collection Values (either in the Movements module online or on the PDA) to capture the information.

Where can I enter data in the user fields?

You can enter data in Standard user fields in User Defined 2 (accessed through Setup > Standard Setup > Standard Product). You can also enter data against an individual item in any one of the following sections:

  • Add Collection Values in the different Movement screens (accessed through Movements)
  • Add Collection Values in  some of the Maintenance screens (accessed through Utilities > Maintenance)
  • In PDA Routines
  • Item Master (accessed through Setup > Item Setup > Item Master)

So where do I go to rename the user fields?

To rename the user fields, go to Setup > Customer Setup > User-Defined Fields. You can rename all Standard and Item user fields on this screen.

Enter the new names for the fields and click Update.

Now the user fields have been renamed for this Customer:

This is just another way to tailor the application for you and your customers.  By making these subtle changes it provides users a much clearer understanding of what information is being captured within the specific fields. It also helps increase accuracy by eliminating any ambiguity about what information should be collected.
