How to Transfer an Asset vs. Like Items Manually

Transfer means moving an item from one location to another. A common reason for transferring an item is that it was received into the incorrect location and needs to be adjusted. It can also be due to space consolidation.

There are two ways to transfer items in SnapTracker: manually (i.e. on the computer) or via PDA. 

This tutorial post outlines the process of manually transferring Asset items and Like items.

Step-by-step instruction

From the main navigation bar on the left, select Movement.

The Movements screen displays. Select Transfer.

The Transfer An Item screen displays. You can use this screen to transfer both Asset and Like items.

Make sure the correct Customer Number displays in the top right corner by answering “whose inventory am I transferring”. You can use the Select a Customer drop-down box to choose the correct Customer.

Note that all fields marked with the red triangle are mandatory and must be filled out.

Transferring an Asset item

Asset items are items tracked with unique serial numbers.

To transfer an Asset item, first select the Standard of the Asset using the Enter a Standard box. If you are typing in the Standard (instead of performing a Product Search), remember to click Get Record.

You will then need to identify and select the serial number of the piece delivered, under the Serial No. drop-down selection box.

Once the Serial No. is selected, the location and condition information of the piece is automatically populated.

Enter the location to which the item is transferred using the To Building and To Location fields. You have the opportunity to alter the Condition of the item when transferring.

Click Transfer at the bottom of the page.

Transferring a Like item

Instead of being tracked with serial numbers, Like items are tracked by quantity count.

To transfer a Like item, you need to first select the Standard using the Enter a Standard box.

Because Like items don’t have Serial Numbers, we need to first identify which items are being transferred.

Enter the current Building, Location and Condition information of the Like items using the From Building, From Location and From Condition. Based on your selection, you can now see the available Quantity of the Like item populated in the Qty on Hand field.

Enter the new location information of the piece using the To Building, To Location fields. You may also alter the Condition of the items. Finally, enter the quantity being transferred using the Qty field.

All item movements are recorded and retained in SnapTracker. You can access the transaction history of the product using the Item Transaction History screen.
