How to quickly create a GIF?

Whether you pronounce it “JIF” (as in the peanut butter brand) or “GIF(t)” (with the silent t), the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is the undeniable favorite trending in the e-Commerce space. Not only are they to capture the attention of audience in ways that static images alone cannot , GIFs‘s relatively small file size is surely another highlight.

In Version 6.0 SP 2, SnapTracker begins to support the .gif format in places where you can upload an image. It means that now you can have animated images like this one:

in Product Picture Search and Product Catalogs.

While you can certainly make elaborate GIF using Photoshop, there are many good alternatives that are perfect for creating simple GIFs. In this post, we will show you how to create eye-catching GIF using Imgflip, an online image generator that allows you to create GIFs within minutes. All you need is Internet access and the materials you’d like to create GIFs with.

The two most common ways to create a GIF are from images and from videos.

From images to GIF

1. Visit https://imgflip.com/gifgenerator.
2. Select “Images to GIF”. Click “Upload Images” then select the photos you’d like to create the GIF with. 
3. Once the photos are uploaded, you can preview the GIF and edit it as you wish. Here I’d like to add in some text. Select “Add text to GIF”.
4. Add the text. You can also edit the text (e.g. color, font etc).
5. When you finish editing, click “Generate GIF”. A new window opens with the option to “Download Image”.6. You have created an eye-catching GIF to showcase your product! You may upload the GIF in Setup > Standard Setup > Standard Product – Product Image. 

From videos to GIF

Alternatively, you can also create GIF from a video. Let’s say you want to create an eye-catching GIF to remind your client to add installation fee to their order.

1. Visit https://imgflip.com/gifgenerator.
2. Select “Videos to GIF”. You can either provide the URL of the video or upload a video from your computer.
3. Once the video is uploaded, you may want to click and drag to select the portion of the video to be included in the GIF.
4. You may also customize the width, crop the GIF etc. Here I’d like to add in some text, so select “Add text to GIF”.
   
5. Add in the text. You can also change the font, color etc to optimize the effect.
   
6. When you finish editing, click “Generate GIF. A new window opens with the option to “Download Image”.
7. You’ve created an eye-catching GIF, ready to be uploaded to SnapTracker!
