Standard Classes need to be created and assigned to Standards.

Standards

A Standard is the unique identifier for a specific product in SnapTracker. A Standard is defined as the name or license plate of a partially or completely specified item. When setting up a Customer, each Standard is unique.

Note: Standards are created under each Customer Number. You can reuse the Standard name within another Customer number, but in the item record they are treated as two separate Standards. What makes each Standard unique is the link to the Company Code and the Customer Number.

Products are assigned the same Standard when they are identical in:

  • Manufacturer
  • Catalog ID/Product Line
  • Catalog Number/Part Number
  • Options and Finishes

The image below is an example of a Standard. For this particular Customer, Standard BIN0004 represents an overhead bin manufactured by Allsteel from the Concensys line with a Catalog No. (Part Number) of OH1536FD.

Furthermore, all products classified as BIN0004 will have the Options and Finishes listed below. Any products with the same manufacturer, catalog ID, catalog number and options and finishes will be assigned the same Standard for the selected Customer.

Standards can be created either manually via SIF import or by uploading an Excel Spreadsheet.

Standard Tier

There are four tiers of Standards in SnapTracker. A Standard partially or completely specified may identify a product or a product’s option/finish description, a buildup of components or it could identify a workstation.

For every new Customer, SnapTracker automatically creates the following four tiers:

  • Option/Finish Tier
  • Standard Tier
  • Buildup Tier
  • Workstation Tier

Option/Finish Tier

The Option/Finish tier is where SnapTracker stores all the individual manufacturer codes and corresponding descriptions for all the different options and finishes related to a Customer.

Options/Finishes are created automatically for a Standard when imported via SIF or they may be manually attached to a Standard on one of the other tiers.

Some examples are:

Standard Description
0835 Black
Basic Basic: Group01 Paint
Plas Lam *Top Surf: Plastic Laminate
,TR- Surface 1
Door *Opt: Door Options

Standard Tier

The Standard Tier is where SnapTracker stores all of the Standard information.  Option/Finishes are attached to Standards to create a fully specified Standard.

As mentioned earlier, products are assigned the same Standard when they are identical in:

  • Manufacturer
  • Catalog ID
  • Catalog Number
  • Options and Finishes

Standards can be created either manually or via SIF import.

Buildup Tier

The Buildup Tier enables you to group Standards together to create a single product that a customer would order, for example a table (top and base combined) or a Panel (frame and skins combined).

The image below is an example of a Buildup Tier Standard. For this particular Customer, Standard PNL0036 represents a Panel that consists of all the Standards (components) highlighted, including brackets, tiles, top caps and end trim.

The Workstation Tier enables the grouping of many Standards and Buildups to form a typical Workstation.

Standard Type:

SnapTracker defines two types of Standards: Asset and Like. When creating Standards, it is important to distinguish the two, especially when it comes to receiving and managing your inventory. Each Standard created is assigned a Standard Type.

The key difference between Asset items and Like items is that Asset items are tracked by serial number, and Like items are tracked by quantity-count only. It is important to know what type of information your customer expects you to be able to collect and report on when deciding if Standards are Like or Asset types.

Asset –  An asset item is an item that has a unique serial number attached to it.  This enables unique item information to be attached to the item such as cost center, item pricing, old asset numbers, etc. When you create asset item Standards, you have the ability to collect detailed information for each piece you receive.

An item is often considered to be an Asset item when it meets the following requirements:

  • Expensive and/or with value.
  • It is a complete unit (e.g. a chair).
  • Worth tracking usage and deployment.

Like item – Like-items are typically the same model number with the same option and finishes, or they may have no options or finishes assigned (i.e. brackets, power components). When you create like item Standards, you are not able to collect as much detailed information as you can for an asset item.

Like items must have the same Standard, Building, Location, and Condition to be entered at the same time.
