Helpful Hint: Defining a Location Structure
Once Building and Location Types are created, the final step in setting up Buildings is creating Locations. These are the physical locations where product may be installed or stored (depending on the Building Type). When this final step is complete, the Buildings are available for product to be received in for any Customers created in the SnapTracker database.
All the physical locations in a Building where product may be either installed or stored are found in the Location screen.
The Location screen enables you to manage the Locations across your SnapTracker site. Locations are set up once and accessible to all Customers on the site. The Location screen enables you to conduct a search through all existing Locations, based on the specified Building, to view details and last update dates. All Locations and their details can be exported. Lastly, you may create, edit, or delete a Location as desired through the Location screen, or make bulk edits from the File Upload screen. Note: A Location can only be deleted when it is empty.
Before creating Locations, you may want to spend time creating a naming convention to use.
When developing a naming convention for Locations keep in mind the requirements of your internal staff and clients. The Locations should be understood at a glance. For example, a racked warehouse may be assigned a Location of:
01093 Aisle/Row 01 Bay 09 Level 3
An area in a customer’s office tower may be assigned a Location of:
09NW010 Floor 9-North West Quadrant-Zone 10
There are many variations in identifying different areas. Define your Location structure to accommodate the lowest level of location tracking. Use the area floor-plan markings or customer-designated room numbers. Keep the length of the Locations uniform in size.
There are a number of benefits in adhering to this rule:

Ease of data entry on the scanner if a Location bar code is not available.

Less scrolling through the drop-down selection box because similar Locations are grouped together.

Locations print and sort evenly in any custom or SnapTracker report.
